We know what every person will find on their Thanksgiving dinner table: the centerpiece “TURKEY” (it does require all caps doesn’t it?), apple cider, fruit cake, stuffing, pies, hot chocolate, creamy mashed potatoes, hot buns and buttered rum. Did we cover everything you have at Thanksgiving every year? Perhaps not because people have different tastes and every family has a tradition.

Did we cover everything you have at Thanksgiving every year? Perhaps not because people have different tastes and every family has a tradition.
We might not have the “Gummy Bear and Mayo Salad”from How I Met Your Motheror the “Trifle”with custard, beef and peas that Rachel made in Friends, but there’s always one thing that sets every family apart.
Following are a few fun traditions that you can adopt to make the upcoming Thanksgiving even more special:
The Wishbone
We don’t know about you but getting the “Wishbone” is a struggle when you are celebrating this day with your aunts and uncles. The moment that breast piece is cut, all eyes are on the prize. Its silly right thinking that by breaking a bone and getting the larger piece, you will get something you have always longed for. Well, it’s a tradition and what’s the harm? You never know that God might be listening. We know what Joey would wish for: the bigger half.
The Tablecloth of Gratitude
What will you be thankful for this year? The daughter you just had? The promotion you got? Successfully opening your business? Your happily married life? Whatever is in your heart, write it down. As your family members take their seat, distribute pens and tell them to write whatever they are happy about. Tell them to read it out loud and then start dinner. Use the same tablecloth every year and reminisce over the washed up words of what you were thankful for.
Let Everyone Toast
Why is it that only one member of the family gets to toast? Yes, we do understand that if all the people at the table started toasting, it would take a lot of time and the Turkey would get cold. Now we don’t want that!
What you can do is shorten your toast to something simple such as, “I’d like to propose a toast to Aunt Macy for being such a wonderful influence in my life”.
It’s short and meaningful at the same time. It will definitely get your message across to your loved one.
Watch TV
We are not talking about Netflix but the 1989’s 2ndclassic National Lampoon’s Christmas vacation. It’s the ultimately movie that gets you into the holiday spirit. Watching Chevy Chase surrounded by the SWAT team just because he went off on his boss for not giving him the Christmas bonus is something we all secretly wish to do.
We all know that a movie screening is not complete without a buttery tub of popcorn, but let’s substitute this crunchy goodness with something sweet. Settle down with your family; distribute bowls of ice cream (you already had the pie, so better opt for something light), place a tray full of sweet condiments such as caramel and chocolate sauce, cookie crumble, nuts, wafers, chocolate chips, m&m’s, Oreo and more, and watch Chevy Chase make a mess of himself.
Finally, take a walk in the park and watch the sun go down. Better get the food digested because leftovers are always enjoyed the most at night. So, start preparing your guest and dinner list because 22 November is not far away.
